Hurtful Words Cord Cutting

On a piece of paper, write down the comments and opinions from others that have negatively impacted how you see and feel about yourself.

Line the Sea Salt

Set the firesafe tray on a flat, open surface away from anything flammable.

Pour a line of sea salt from top to bottom through the center of the tray, dividing it into two equal sides.

Set the Black Candle & Herbs

Place the black candle in a candle holder and set it on the left side of the salt line to represent the views of others that have stayed with you.

Surround the black candle with the following:

• Nettle to remove the sting and emotional pain left by the hurtful words of others.
• Rue to break the influence and power those words hold over you.

Set the White Candle & Botanicals

Place the white candle in a candle holder and set it on the right side of the salt line to represent you reclaiming your power and separating how you see yourself from the opinions of others.

Surround the white candle with the following:

• Rose Buds to restore emotional balance and self-love.
• Lavender to aid emotional healing and bring peace after what you have endured.

Establish the Connection

Take a long piece of twine to represent the cord that has connected you to these thoughts. Tie one end around the black candle about one inch below the wick. Bring the twine across the salt line and tie the other end around the white candle at the same height of one inch below the wick.

Light the black candle, followed by the white candle, using a match or lighter.

You may choose to read your petition out loud or silently to yourself. Acknowledge how these words have affected you and that they no longer have the power to shape how you see and feel about yourself.

Once you have finished reading, fold the petition away from you three times and place it down next to the black candle on the left side of the tray.

Focus on the cord tied between your candles and what the connection represents.

Using a pair of scissors, cut through the center of the twine to sever the influence of these words and their impact on you.

Allow the two cut ends of the twine to fall back toward their candles. As the cord burns along with the candles, speak the incantation.

Your words no longer shape my view.
Their power banished in the rue.

I sever where their influence lies.
A flame burns the cord to break the ties.

My sense of self I now define.
Free from opinions that are not mine.

Thank the tools and elements for their energy and assistance with your cord cutting ritual.

Allow the candles to burn down and extinguish the flames. Let the remaining wax cool completely before disposing of it along with the herbs in your home trash. Cleanse the tray before using it for other spells.
